Guide to material selection

POLYFOAM AND CELLULAR PLASTIC
Polyfoam and cellular plastic are the most common names for a large number of flexible materials with low natural weight and a long useful life, materials with varying chemical and mechanical properties widely used in our everyday life.

n the manufacturing industry, polyfoam and cellular plastics are used for sealing and sound or heat insulation, in air and liquid filtering, etc.

In cargo handling, these materials are used as shock-absorbent packaging materials and as protection for fragile surfaces and components. In healthcare and households, they are used for hygiene and cleaning, single-use wash cloths, sponges, etc.

In leisure activities, we encounter polyfoam and cellular plastic as sleeping pads, inlays in casual clothes, strap pads for backpacks and bags, shock-absorbing inlays in camera bags, insulation of boat hulls, boat motors, and in many, many other places.

Certain special materials are manufactured mainly for case inserts and advertising products where high requirements apply to the appearance, surface, colour, UV stability, etc.

A list of all possible materials would be very long and the list of different applications and uses would never be complete. New needs and opportunities for polyfoam and cellular plastic arise daily.

So contact us as soon as you know or think that your issue could be solved with our materials.

We have a competent staff, modern and efficient equipment and plants as well as over 35 years of experience of cellular plastic processing, from solving issues and consultation to a complete product.

Some types of cellular plastic with examples of common uses and processing options are listed below. All materials can be laminated with two-sided adhesive tape, aluminium foil, textile, etc.

POLYETHER
Open cells, high elasticity.

The material is used as packaging material for light and fragile products, in mattresses and furniture, and in washing and cleaning products.

Volume weight 23–130 kg/m3.

Firebreak class, flame-proof versions are also available.

POLYESTER
Both open and closed cells, moderate deformability, and with a high load-bearing capacity.

The material is used for noise absorbents, inserts, subcontracted components, etc.

Volume weight 23–120 kg/m3.

Firebreak class, flame-proof versions are also available.

SHOCK ABSORBENT MATS
Used to prevent vibrations and structure-borne noise.

FOAM RUBBER MATERIALS
They are used for seals and gaskets.

SPONGE MATERIALS
Available in polyether as well as polyester, although polyester lasts longer. Materials with a ‘scrubbing side’ are also available.

FILTER MATERIAL
These materials are used for filtering air and water. Also suitable for speaker fronts. Porosity 10–80 ppi.

KOMPREMIX®
A recycled material suitable for noise and vibration absorption. Densities 75–200 kg/m3.

DISSIPATING / CONDUCTIVE MATERIALS
Mainly used for ESD sensitive components.

CELLULAR POLYETHYLENE
Closed cells, moisture-repellent, high shock-absorbing capacity, and low density (20–45 kg).
